- Two words: Dollar Stores. From inexpensive paper goods including wrapping paper, bows, tableware, paper plates and napkins, to quaint and quirky tchotchkes and even fun and unique stocking stuffers, your local dollar store is a holiday treasure trove!
- Step outside your comfort zone and ditch the traditional red and green color scheme this year. Go outdoorsy and pair green with brown, elegant by matching silver and blue, or neutral with white and beige. Visit your nearby arts and crafts store and let your imagination run wild with different ornament and ribbon combinations.
- After hanging the outside lights and door wreath, changing the yard flag from a pumpkin to a snowman and wrapping the front porch railings, don’t forget to add a little holiday cheer to the mailbox. An inexpensive decorative cover or a couple pine swags tied with a big red bow will make you (and the mail carrier) smile every time.
- Pine cones, colorful leaves, magnolia leaves, pine or holly boughs and seasonal berries from your yard can all be incorporated into your holiday décor. Just add festive ribbon and you can easily drape shelves, fireplace mantels, light fixtures and more.
- Keep the kids busy making paper holiday trees, their own special holiday ornament, or a customized wreath for their bedroom door.
- Pick up three varying sizes of faux green wreaths, built a sturdy wooden frame, decorate with an old scarf and hat and Voila! you have an outdoor snowman minus the snow!
- Switch out everyday décor including decorative pillows, sofa throws, candles and tablescapes to ones that radiated holiday cheer.
