Inside the Village at Hartness

Hartness, a planned mixed-use development located on Greenville’s eastside between Pelham Road and Roper Mountain Road, will showcase 700 custom built homes, a town center featuring shops and restaurants, a boutique hotel, fitness trails, a Southern styled clubhouse complete with indoor fitness center, and so much more. Convenient to Woodruff Road, downtown Greenville, and both Interstate 85 and 385, this traditionally designed community has been created to honor both the land and the Hartness family legacy.

Hartness History

In 1940 Tom Hartness opened the first Upstate Pepsi-Cola franchise, and from that one humble soft drink plant, Mr. Hartness went on to create Hartness International, a global packaging equipment business. During the 1970’s Mr. Hartness along with his two sons founded Hartness Engineering which operated as a family owned business until 2009 when it was acquired by Illinois Tool Works.

The Hartness Homestead

Forty years ago Tom’s son Pat and his wife Mary Lou purchased 450 acres on the outskirts of Greenville County and built a 5,000 square foot home for their growing family. Set among acres of woods and pastures, with the Rocky Creek running through the property, over the years the Hartness estate hosted many community and charity events. But now it’s time for the property to serve the Upstate in a different way. The family home is slated to become part of a 73 suite boutique hotel located within the Hartness development.

The Community

traditional neighborhood focused on custom homes designed for those seeking a smaller footprint, the residences range in size from 1,600 to 3,500 square feet and are strategically placed on compact lots. Forty percent of the entire community is in an environmental Trust and will never be developed. This provides plenty of greenspace for residents to enjoy including over 15 miles of walking, hiking and biking trails along with the Hartness Sports Garden, the Hartness Pool Complex, and numerous ponds and lakes perfect for kayaking and paddle boating.

While many wellness and fitness components have been integrated throughout the development, communing with nature isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. So with that in mind, the  Hartness Wellness Center, housed within the clubhouse offers group fitness classes, yoga, one-on-one personal and group training, nutritional consultations, massage therapy and reflexology, all provided by Fitness with a View, along with both cardio and weight studios.
